# Connect an AI agent

[Wiki](../README.md) / [Station](README.md)

Station has an MCP server built in. Turn it on, copy the configuration into your agent, and
the agent can read your local instance's schema and run Cypher against it, under a database
user of its own.

## Turn it on

Open the **MCP** view and press **Start MCP** while the local server runs. The MCP server
listens on `http://127.0.0.1:7688/mcp`, beside the database.

- **Start the MCP with the local server** starts it whenever the instance starts.
- The agent signs in as the user `mcp`, which Station creates the first time with the
`reader` role and a generated password kept in your credential store.
- **Agents may write** gives `mcp` the `editor` role instead, so agents can create and change
data. Turn it off again and `mcp` goes back to reading.

Stopping the local server stops the MCP server too.

## Connect a client

**Connect a client** has ready-made configuration to copy:

- **Claude Code:** a `claude mcp add` command to run in a terminal.
- **MCP clients (HTTP):** an `mcpServers` block for Claude Desktop and other clients that
  connect over HTTP.
- **Standalone (stdio):** the same instance through the separate `galactus-db-mcp` program,
for clients that start their own server process. It connects to Station's database, so it
  works while Station is open.

The configuration holds a placeholder where the password goes. Tick **Include the password
in the config** to copy it with the real one; keep that copy somewhere private.

## See what agents do

**Tools** lists what an agent connected as `mcp` can call. **Audit** records every tool call,
newest first: who called which tool, and when. The text of queries and their results are
never recorded.
